Application Process
The applicant must submit a (500 words) essay describing the major experience in their life which helped form their values, ethical positions, community involvement, and personal and career goals. Essay must be typed and double-spaced. Additionally, the applicant must submit one letter of recommendation in a sealed envelope which has been written within the last twelve months (written no earlier than January 2009). The letter must be from a high school teacher, college counselor, trade school teacher, clergy and/or someone that can attest to the applicant’s character. The applicant must identify the person from whom the letter of recommendation is being requested, when submitting the application.
To be eligible, the applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, high school seniors or college/trade school students at time of their application. Applicants must have applied to and received official notice of acceptance by an accredited school (trade school, two or four year institution) and demonstrate a financial need. If presently in college, proof of current enrollment must be submitted. Scholarships are not limited to any specific field or career objective.
Scholarship Application Criteria
The application, with the exception of the letter of recommendation and transcripts, must be postmarked or emailed to the Jason Mitchell Foundation by May 15, 2010. Transcripts and letter of recommendation are to be postmarked by the deadline. Applications that are late or incomplete will not be considered. Scholarship recipients will be notified in early June 2010. The names of the scholarship recipients will be posted on the Jason Mitchell Foundation website.
